Water in Basement – Solutions to Get Dried Out

If you’re dealing with water in basement

You know just how much trouble this issue can cause. From structural damage to property damage, there seems to be no end to the problems that pop up once you have a leaky or flooded basement. Of course, no steps can totally restore items that have been completely destroyed by severe water damage caused by water in your basement, but there are some steps that you can take to help prevent water in basement from happening again.

Water In Basement : Water Alarms

One of the first steps you can take is to get a water level alarm for your basement. If there is a crack in your home’s foundation that is letting in water slowly, these kinds of alarms can alert you the moment that any moisture is detected. These alarm systems work by placing a sensor on the floor, or any area where water may be seeping into your basement. Once the sensor comes in contact with water, it sets off a loud alert signal, similar to a fire alarm. If someone is home to hear the alert, steps can be taken to stop the water, or to get valuables and property out of the way so that water in basement does not occur.

Water In Basement : Which Alarm Do I Need ?

There are different types of alarms available, ranging from very basic models to alarms that will actually send out a telephone message when water is detected. If you decide to install an alarm, you’ll have to decide which type will work best for your situation. And these alarms work best with slow water leaks, they are not of much value during total flood situations that quickly overwhelm your basement with water.

Water In Basement : Rapid Flooding

Even if you’ve never had a fast moving flood in your basement, the possibility that it could happen exists. Especially if you’ve had minor water in basement problems. We all want to keep a dry basement, but sometimes heavy rains or other problems cause a flood condition to happen. While detection via an alarm can alert you to these types of situations, they do little to help you keep the water out of your basement.

To prepare for these kinds of situations, it’s wise to keep any valuables out of your basement, until you can get the foundation repaired. You may have to look into one of the many basement waterproofing systems to find the type that will work best for your home. In the meantime, though, keep valuables and irreplaceables out of the basement. It’s also wise to keep electric appliances to a minimum and kept at a level that is high enough to avoid potential water damage in case of water in basement.

These are just a few ideas to help you deal with water in basement issues that can occur. Every possible scenario is different, so you may need to consult with an expert to get the water prevention system you need for your home’s basement.
